Introduction to role
Are you ready to make a difference in the field of Hypertension and Renal disease? AstraZeneca is seeking a dynamic Medical Science Liaison to join our team and drive scientific exchange and evidence generation. As a regional subject matter expert, you'll engage with healthcare professionals, support clinical trials, identify research opportunities, and bring valuable insights back to inform our medical strategy. This field-based role operates within Medical Affairs, ensuring a strictly non-promotional approach.
Accountabilities
- Review emerging data with Healthcare Professionals (HCPs), discussing benefits and risks in a scientific, objective, and unbiased manner.
- Interact with HCPs as scientific consultants to engage in activities aligned with corporate projects such as advisory boards, speaker programs, and clinical trials.
- Identify HCPs with the scientific acumen and expertise to collaborate on forward-thinking basic and pre-clinical research identified in our target planning.
- Stay abreast of information and provide AstraZeneca with an understanding of regional HCPs, their practices, and related key issues and trends in disease treatment to build strong relationships and discover new ideas for research.
- Act as a regional (field-based) subject matter expert in the lifecycle management of products across various therapeutic areas.
- Uncover opportunities for research with HCPs and connect these opportunities to the Medical Advisor as part of the Externally Sponsored Research (ESR) process.
- Support key clinical trial sites by providing expert scientific expertise on the molecule being investigated during site initiation or shortly thereafter.
- Collaborate with clinical operations groups to ensure successful recruitment of clinical sites.
Essential Skills/Experience
- Ability to effectively synthesize and communicate scientific information at a peer level with healthcare professionals.
- Previous experience as a healthcare professional (PharmD, MD) or one with scientific expertise including PhD or MSc, or 5+ years of MSL experience.
- 5+ years experience in the pharmaceutical industry in a physician-facing role with a deep understanding of the healthcare environment regarding Opinion Leaders, Academia, and the Medical Community in general.
- At least 2 years of experience working in the area of Cardiovascular/Renal/Diabetes/Metabolism with established HCP relationships.
- Previous pre-launch and/or launch experience.
- Excellent ability to learn and capacity for scientific concepts and knowledge.
- Well-organized and a self-starter with strong communication and business skills.
- Positively impact and influence others, quickly establishing credibility while building strong business relationships.
- Ability to travel frequently (within your territory) and hold a valid driver's license (a valid driver abstract requested at time of acceptance).
